The best way to secure your last minute holiday deal

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Casper da silva asked:

ght (c) 2009 Casper da silva

Let’s commence with the watch words of the year Credit Crunch and reccession, and what it means for holiday seekers this season. I remember when I first started in the Travel Industry last century - I do laugh when I throw that one out - twenty two years ago going on holiday was a luxury to be cherished. By the late eighties quickly followed by the naughty nineties, going on holiday evolved from being a luxury shared by a small minority to becoming an absolute necessity shared by the masses and a way to keep your sanity for the rest of the year. It was also something to aspire to and look forward to and despite the saturation of the travel industry it still holds that certain magic for the great British public going away wanting to leave their humdrum lives behind and live the dream, catching the rays, looking at beautiful sunsets, tasting different foods meeting different people as well as enjoying the culture. Needless to say this year in 2009, there has been a bit of panic about whether going on holiday is going to be a possibility for most couples and families and the media’s ongoing credit crunch mantra hasn’t helped those with fears to the average traveller.

However, I am going to go on record and state with absolute confidence and clarity that this is going to be a dream year for last minute holidays and great bargains will be bountiful in this buyers market. However and there is a ‘however’ to consider you’d better know what to do and when. As any self respecting gambler will tell you, you just have to know when to gamble and when to fold. A last minute holiday booking does not necessarily mean booking your holiday a day before departure to get the best deal, a day before departure can sometimes mean you pay more than your counterpart who booked four weeks before you and sometimes six weeks. If I could count the times I have heard my clients kick themselves in the shin for playing with waiting on brilliant holiday offers they were given and decided to take a gamble and wait till a day before departure thinking they would get it even cheape than chips is in fact a silly gamble and it wont work in your favour. If you have a specific somewhere that you want to go to with a certain type of board in a particular resort, frankly you book your holiday a minimum four weeks before departure so that you can get your particular deal. If however you are the type who wants to just turn up at the airport with a suitcase not caring where you go as long as you get a bit of sun then a few days before departure for a great late holiday deal will suit you just fine.

Again word to the wise, gambling with a last minute holiday a day before a Bank Holiday or the start of any school holidays is a definite no-no, trying to find a suitable last minute holiday bargain a couple of days before you want to get away can be an extremely stressful exercise for a family with specific needs and requirements, so always start looking five to nine weeks before departure. Be prepared when booking a last minute holiday make sure your budget is accounted for on your debit or credit card, losing a holiday to something as routine as a ten minute account to account fund transfer. If you are sans debit or credit cards, then phone a friend or family member and ask them to help you out with the use of their card details which you of course repay, and make sure you have this in place before you start searching for your last minute holiday, as some offers need to be booked and paid for straight away or you may lose out on a great deal by the time you try and sort out ways to pay for your holiday. Remember no one holds options on last minute holidays anymore. You will find companies are more than willing to offer competitive prices, and it’s easy to get caught up in getting companies to compete with each other to get the best deals. But take too long and use too many companies to do your bidding war and it could end up you become the loser, as the electronic data been gathered by the operator gives them the idea that the demand on the holiday you are searching for is great and the price will go up. So snap up that fantastic lasty minute holiday, and do so with some defiance, 2009 is going to be one of the best years to find last minute holiday, so enjoy it!

How to Search Ski Holidays for Beginners

Thursday, February 4th, 2010
Mandy Chagger asked:

Many types of catered holidays can help you enjoy your time off, be together with your family, and have a wonderful time. Catered skiing holidays can be great fun for you and your loved ones. However, when you are going on catered skiing holidays, there are several things that you must plan for ahead of time. These things include flights to get you to your destination, the accommodation that you choose to stay in when you are there, and transportation such as rail services and car hire services. All these things are important items to consider as you begin planning your skiing holidays.

Choosing A Destination

The first thing to remember when you are planning skiing holidays is the importance of the destination. There are many great ski slopes all over Europe, and lots of these places offer anywhere from a weekend to a week or more of skiing fun. Many resorts provide skiing holidays in mountain areas that are some of the most beautiful in the world. However, there are several questions that you need to ask before you choose the best place for your skiing holidays.

The first things you need to focus on while choosing skiing holidays are how long you are going to be there, the number of people who are going, and their ages. These are probably the most important factors in deciding where to take your skiing holidays. The length of your skiing holiday will have a lot to do with the destination that you choose. If you are only going for the weekend or a couple of days, you can find a remote and beautiful place to go to for your skiing holiday. If your trip is short, your focus will be on skiing, and it won’t matter if there are not very many amenities or family things to do. The other attractions that might be in the area won’t be as important as the family ski resort itself. You want to choose a ski resort that will allow you to do as much skiing as possible in the short time you have for your holiday.

If your skiing holiday is going to be longer than a few days, the location and amenities of the place that you choose for these skiing holidays are both very important. When you are going to take a ski holiday that lasts longer than just a few days, the other things that you can find to do become much more vital to you. For a long trip, you will need other things to do, no matter how much you love skiing. You will need to make sure that you choose skiing holidays at places that have restaurants, shopping districts, entertainment, and other activities. These will allow you to take a break from skiing, and make your skiing holidays more enjoyable overall.

The ages of the people going on your skiing holidays are also very important. If you are going on skiing holidays with your children, you need to choose places that have ski lessons for children, and fun activities for them as well. With your children along, you also want to research the safety of the ski resort even more thoroughly than you otherwise would. Remember again, that with children, you are going to want to pick your skiing holiday locations where there are lots of things for them to do besides skiing.

Getting There

Once you have chosen a place for your skiing holidays, you have to decide on the best way to get there. The travelling that is involved often costs more than the actual skiing. However, there are many deals on flights and packages to various destinations for skiing holidays, if you know where to look. If you can save money on airline flights, you will have more money to spend on your skiing holidays.

The accommodation that you choose is also an important part of planning family skiing holidays. Whether you stay on the actual site of the family resort, or somewhere near the slopes, you want to be able to get there easily each day to ski. Remember, if you are staying at the place where you are skiing, it might be more expensive. However, your ski slope fees will usually be included. If you find an accommodation that is much cheaper than the resort, but where skiing is nearby, you might find this to be less expensive, but you probably will have to pay for the ski slope fees.

There are other things to consider as you plan your skiing holidays. Things like rail services that can get you to your destination, and whether or not you want to do a car hire are all decisions that you have to make before you leave on your trip. You will find that if you take the time to plan your skiing holidays before you go, you will be able to relax and enjoy them much more.

Canada is one of the most northern countries in North America and it is regarded as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Holiday Gift Basket Ideas for Every Holiday

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010
Anna Hart asked:

Holiday gift baskets are well established in connection to certain holidays. Christmas holiday gift baskets are widely advertised and given. In the United States, Easter and Thanksgiving holiday gift baskets are also popular.

Holiday gift baskets do not have to be reserved for Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving, however. These baskets are always appropriate and appreciated. Wine holiday gift baskets are often given as business gifts. Pet holiday gift baskets are pushed by pet stores in the U.S. Baby and corporate holiday gift baskets are also given in some countries.

Holiday gift baskets are cheap or expensive, unique or run-of-the-mill. You can usually find one suited to the specific holiday, but if not, you can custom-make holiday gift baskets.

Holiday Gift Basket Occasions

It would be impossible to list here every holiday of every nation. We will look at just a few that merit holiday gift baskets.

1. New Year’s Day: This holiday is celebrated universally. Holiday gift baskets should include items celebrating beginnings. Think of the word “new” when planning contents of a New Year’s Day holiday gift basket. You might also send a sport-oriented gift basket in the U.S., since many football teams play major games that day.

2. Children’s Day: Many nations celebrate a holiday for children. Baby holiday gift baskets or gift baskets for older children may be given. Include food treats appropriate to the age, plus a toy, book, or game. You can avoid sweets by making it a spa basket with “special” shampoos and lotions.

If the gifts are for youngsters who love horses, consider equestrian theme holiday gift baskets. Include carrots, apples, and sugar cubes to share with a favorite horse. Add a book about horses.

3. Mother’s Day/Father’s Day: These holidays are also common to many nations. Holiday gift basket ideas for these should honor the mother or father. This is a time for custom-made baskets, showing your thoughtfulness in selecting treats and gifts the recipient is known to like.

4. Grandparents’ Day: Grandma and Grandpa holiday gift baskets are appropriate for holidays such as the United States’ Grandparents’ Day. Give heart healthy holiday gift baskets. A healthy basket might include dried blueberries and bananas, smoked salmon, nut snacks, and Irish oatmeal. Add tickets to an event they would enjoy together, sporting or other.

5. Independence Day: Here is another holiday gift basket occasion. Most countries have a day on which they celebrate the nation’s beginnings. For example, “Canada Day” would be a great time for Canada holiday gift baskets. “The Fourth of July” is a good time for U.S. holiday gift baskets. In Japan, “Kenkoku Kinenbi” is a time for Japan holiday gift baskets. Be sure you include national flags in your holiday gift baskets. Something bubbly that can pop a cork would also be appropriate. If legal where you live, add a few small fireworks for celebration.

6. Memorial Day: Nations often set aside a day to commemorate those who died in their country’s service. Holiday gift baskets are a thoughtful way to thank those who lost loved ones in a war.

7. Labor Day: Here is another holiday that is celebrated around the world. With its roots in Australia, Labor Day can be a time for unexpected holiday gift baskets. Theme the contents to labor, perhaps “sturdy” foods and treats.

Helpful Tip

Remember to add cards to your holiday gift baskets – and choose durable baskets so they will remain as souvenirs long after their contents are gone.

Use Your Second Home As A Holiday Apartment Rental Money Maker

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
Holiday Man asked:

As a tourist, a holiday apartment or country cottage offers a unique adventure which combines freedom, with comfort. Freedom to do as you please, explore the areas and sites you are interested in, and come home after a long day of fun.

Of course you could decide to be traditional and look to hotels for your holiday accommodation but if you are traveling with your family, hotels may prove to be quite an expensive alternative let alone the level of comfort in terms of space that you will get.

Your apartment or cottage is carefully inspected and maintained by regional managers and offer the best quality available. This is concept that is not new and over time, problems which might have arisen due to the novelty of the idea have been resolved. In London, these apartments are even fully serviced with daily cleaning and regular change of linen and towels.

In fact, you may not even want to restrict yourself to a self catering vacation home in France. Europe is crisscrossed with an extensive railway network, some of it bullet trains and you can expand your travel to any European country.

Just picture yourself exploring the glorious “Chateaux de la Loire” during the day and then head back to a charming, 500 year old restored property on the banks of the River Authion. And just case you have a taste of a visit to Paris, just hop on one of the many bullet trains available in France and travel to Paris in comfort and at great speed.

So if you are planning a short break, or a longer holiday, you can look forward to a unique experience and take your family on a trip of a life time where you will be able to live like the locals and get to know them even better.

And of course, renting a holiday home is a whole lot cheaper than a conventional hotel whilst affording the luxury of much more space. You will be saving money on the rental costs alone, compared to those of hotels but additional savings can become substantial when you decide to take a few meals at home rather than in restaurants. Vacation homes will also often hook you up with reliable baby sitting services and this will in turn allow mom and dad to have this romantic dinner in the Lake District for example which they have always dreamed about. A vacation home is truly unique in the enchantments and possibilities it offers.

As an owner of a property that is not producing sufficient income, you might want to look into this avenue yourself. The self catering market is such that no contract is usually required and so you would be able to dispose of your property without any problem in the even that you chose to sell if for example.

Make an appointment with a local rental agent who will inspect your home and make the necessary recommendations. You can discuss the level of income anticipated and then take an informed decision.

At the end of the day, the risks in renting your property are low and as mentioned before, you will not be tied down by a restrictive agreement which would prohibit you from taking your vacation home of the holiday market.

Package holidays are hassle free holidays

Thursday, January 21st, 2010
Kim Chambers asked:

Package holidays make booking a holiday easier as the different parts of the holiday are packaged together so you pay just one price to one company. The flight and accommodation will be organised by the tour operator and sometimes includes additional services such activities and car hire.

The package holiday business has certainly matured into a very competitive market with the big tour operators competing to get consumers money, the main sector being family package holidays.

There is an array of package holidays to choose from in addition to family holidays like skiing, safaris or cruise package holidays which vary depending on the options and standard that you want. Tour operators offer the same destinations for package holidays, popular destinations include Spain, Greece and Cyprus for family holidays, as flight or accommodation only holidays, the hassle of paying different companies and making the arrangements is avoided.

There are a number of outlets to find package holidays. The traditional method would be to go to your local high street holiday travel agent. However more and more people are using the internet to find their summer holidays. The obvious benefit to searching on the web is you can research your holiday, the destinations and read reviews of other holidaymakers in your own time.

Always look out for the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL) protected sign before booking your holiday. This means should something happen to the provider then ATOL will offer financial protection so you have peace of mind that your are booking with a reputable company.

Once you have decided where you want to go there are many comparison sites that will search the package holiday market to find you the best deal. Many even have the option to let you book travel insurance through them, letting you tick another item off your list.

Package holidays take all the hassle out of making the arrangements for your holiday as well as offering additional services so you can make the most of your holiday like excursions so you can experience the local cultures and traditions. This means you can concentrate on enjoying your holiday. All you’ll need to do is make sure you have your passports and pack your bags – remember the sun cream!

Which Countries Offer A Golfing Holiday On The Internet

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010
Andrew Gibson asked:

Golf holidays have grown greatly in popularity in recent years. It is now possible to go on a golf holiday to most countries in the world due to the growth of the budget airlines and the internet. Many golfers now book a golfing holiday on the internet with direct holiday bookings. One of the most popular golf holiday destinations is France.

Some golfers choose to go and play golf in France as a short break holiday as it is a relatively cheap golfing holiday. Golfers can fly to France on their short break, go on the train or catch a ferry over and drive. When they are on holiday in France there is a tremendous choice of golf courses for them to choose from. Many of these golf courses offer special rates for people coming to France on a golfing holiday.

Spain has many golf courses and is another destination popular with golfers. The attraction of Spain is that people can play golf all the year round when there on holiday. Many families now go on Spanish golf holidays as many of the golf courses in Spain let golfers of all abilities play on them. The Costa Del Sol is a favourite destination for a golf holiday break with many tourists going there for a long weekend of golf. In recent years golf courses in Spain have started to offer mid week golf holiday breaks.

Portugal also now caters for golfing holidays. Like Spain, Portugal is a favourite destination for golf holidays because of its ideal climate. Many holiday makers play golf in the Algarve in Portugal and go there on a golf holiday break. It also attracts families on golfing holidays and gives families the option to play golf or enjoy the beautiful weather that Portugal has to offer.

You can now arrange your golf holidays on line and many people now use the internet to research their golf holidays abroad. In recent years there has been a growth in luxury golf holidays. Golfers can now use the internet to choose where they want to stay and also arrange which golf courses that they are going to play on before they go there on holiday.

The Canary Islands now offers golf holidays over the internet and is again another popular golf holiday destination due to its good climate. The same can now also be said of Turkey. With golfers now looking to play golf abroad there has been more demand for other countries to offer golfing breaks. Turkey has responded to this increase in demand for golf holidays by tailor making golf packages.

Cyprus has not normally been regarded as a golf holiday destination. With the growth of the internet the tourist board in Cyprus realized that it had an ideal climate for golf and that there was potential to attract more tourists to the Cyprus if they started to promote golf holiday breaks. They have done such a good job of promoting golf holidays to Cyprus that it is now a very popular holiday with golfers.
